Tours - Gander
Gander is known as the "Crossroads of
the World" because its international airport is about halfway
between major metropolitan areas of Europe and North America. The airfield
was built during World War ll because Gander was a fog free area and was
much too far inland to be attacked from the sea. After the war, demands on
Gander as a Trans Atlantic stop increased as the aviation industry entered
the jet age. Gander is also a good home base for exploring Central
Newfoundland,
the picturesque Kittiwake coast, the icebergs, Whales and Quaint Fishing
Villages
