Located a short distance inland from the southern
shore of St. George's Bay, the town is between Robinsons and McKay's, with
Barachois River to its south and Robinsons River to its north. It was
named after Michael Carty in the late 1800s. Carty was the area's
political representative between 1882 and 1897.
