For a town of 1200, St. Lawrence has a degree of sports fame unmatched in the province. In 2002, the town's senior soccer team, the Laurentians, won its eighth consecutive provincial championship, and then won the silver medal at the national Challenge Cup tournament in St. John's. No wonder the town bills itself as "The Soccer Capital of Canada.
