Located 11 km. southeast of St. John's, Cape Spear National Historic Site is famous as
the most easterly point in North America. From the heights of it sheer
cliffs, visitors have a spectacular view of the open Atlantic, making it
an excellent spot for watching whales, seabirds and icebergs.
Visit the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland, dating from 1836. The
lighthouse has been restored to its original appearance and furnished to
reflect a lightkeeper's residence of 1839.
This site also features the
Cape Spear Visitor Centre, gift shop and picnic area. Inquire about the
summer concert series, weekend theatrical events and other special events.
