Cape Spear National Historic Site

 Located 11 km. southeast of St. John's, Cape Spear National Historic Site is famous as the most easterly point in North America. From the heights of it sheer cliffs, visitors have a spectacular view of the open Atlantic, making it an excellent spot for watching whales, seabirds and icebergs. Visit the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland, dating from 1836. The lighthouse has been restored to its original appearance and furnished to reflect a lightkeeper's residence of 1839. This site also features the Cape Spear Visitor Centre, gift shop and picnic area. Inquire about the summer concert series, weekend theatrical events and other special events.
