Historic
Attractions & Museums - Gander
Gander is known as the " Crossroads of
the World " because its international airport is about halfway
between major metropolitan areas of Europe and North America. The airfield
was built during World War ll because Gander was a fog free area and was
much too far inland to be attacked from the sea. After the war, demands on
Gander as a Trans Atlantic stop increased as the aviation industry entered
the jet age. Gander is also a good home base for exploring Central
Newfoundland, and the picturesque
Kittiwake Coast.
