Theatre -
Stephenville
Stephenville was originally known as Indian Creek
but was renamed by a group of French Acadian settlers in 1844 for a member
of their party, Stephen LeBlanc. The community gained in stature during WW
ll and the cold war when the United States established the Earnest Harmon
Air Base just outside town. The town celebrates Harmon Field Day every two years as
thousands gather to watch static aircraft displays and the air show put on
by pilots of the NATO Countries. During July and early August, the
Stephenville Theatre Festival attracts theatre buffs from all over. Its
plays range from original works to professional quality productions of
Broadway hits.
