Bristol's Hope - Newfoundland and Labrador

Bristol's Hope , off Route 70 between Carbonear and Harbour Grace, has a picturesque harbour with many beautiful homes. During the celebration of the "Cupids Colony Tercentenary" in 1910, the name was changed from "Mosquito" to "Bristol's Hope. The community, having been mentioned in1583, was the birthplace of Harbour Grace. The legendary Princess Shelia was said to have settled here with her husband Gilbert Pike, in 1603.

One of the last of its kind in Newfoundland, the Mosquito Registered Heritage Structure in Bristol's Hope, is a rare example of what wooden schools in outport communities looked like in the 1800's.
