Located 72 kms from the Trans Canada Highway
along scenic route 370, Buchans will take you
deep into the interior of Newfoundland.
Steeped in mining history, beginning in 1927, Buchans
provided a rich source of zinc, lead, copper,
silver and gold. A visit to the Mining Museum
will be the highlight of your visit. Dedicated
to the memory of 23 native sons who were killed
in mining tragedies, the tour guides will
provide a glimpse into the past. Discover how
Mattie Mitchell, a prospector accidentally
uncovered the rich mineral that started it all.
Buchans, because of its location, has a great
deal to offer both the recreational and outdoor
enthusiasts. The town's recreational facilities
include a curling club, stadium, playground and
outdoor swimming pool.
The surrounding area
contains some of the province's richest hunting
and fishing areas, and provides excellent
opportunities for wildlife viewing.
