Signal Hill offers a panoramic view of St. John's, the harbour, the ocean and the coastline. Cape Spear, north America's most easterly point, lies to the Southeast.
Cabot Tower is located on the summit of Signal Hill, it is open to the public and features historical exhibits and a gift shop. The Lookout, including the Duke of York Battery and a series of interpretation panels, is a representation of 19th century fortifications on Signal Hill.
Queen's Battery is open to the public during season, which is included in the Visitor Centre fee. The Interpretation Centre features an audiovisual presentation on the history of Newfoundland and Labrador. Near Cabot Tower, in an old hospital now demolished, the Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi received the first trans-Atlantic wireless signal here in 1901.
